Excursions : Khe Ga Light House
According to “Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi” (History of the unification of Great Vietnam), in the west of Tuy Ly district 52 kms far from the land there are big stones sitting cross the coast. This place is known as Ke-Du (chicken island).

Ke Ga island is 500m far from the seaside, on the low tide day, we can wade from the seashore to this island. When there is flood-tide or wind, it’s hard to shuttle between the island and the coast. In the past, there were many good carrying ships which were sunk in this area due to the direction lost.

Besides, Khe Ga is considered as the most dangerous spot of the sea road from Phan Rang to Vung Tau.

As many merchant ships from foreign country come across this island and the increasing needs from French army, French spent money to build Khe Ga Light House. During the construction of this house, many people were died due to accident. Today, this house still exists the cemetery which maintains the body of whom were died for this work.

Khe Ga Light House was first built in February 1897 and finished in 1899 by a French architecturer Chnavat. This day, the house remains a big granite in the front door carving the year 1899. The Light House opened in 1900. The executive officer contains a French (service chief ) and 8 Vietnamese (stand guard the light). It is 65 m above the sea level and has 184 steel spiral steps leading to the top of the tower. The signal light for ships is 2,000W in capacity. The length of each tower base is more than 20 m, and the side of the square house is 40 m wide. The light house on Ke Ga Island, together with the surrounding scenery, makes up a magnificent landscape and impresses many visitors.
